125: Smith claims Czech pole

Bradley Smith took his first pole position of the 2010 season with a dominant performance in Saturday's qualifying session for the 125cc Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno.

The Aspar Aprilia rider finished the session with a decisive 0.484sec advantage over returning team-mate Nico Terol, the former world championship leader who missed the previous Sachsenring round due to back injuries, but had been fastest on Friday in Brno.

Title leader Marc Marquez, who dislocated his shoulder on Friday, skipped this morning's final practice session but was back on track for qualifying. The winner of the last five races rode to an excellent (under the circumstances) fourth place on the grid from his 14 laps.

Pol Espargaro, who trails Marquez by 26 points in the championship, will start from third place for Tuenti Derbi - having been the final rider within one-second of Smith.

Qualifying - Brno:

1. Smith (Aprilia) 2m 7.146s
2. Terol (Aprilia) +0.484s
3. Espargaro (Derbi) +0.927s
4. Marquez (Derbi) +1.040s
5. Cortese (Derbi) +1.193s
6. Vazquez (Derbi) +1.528s
7. Krummenacher (Aprilia) +1.828s
8. Koyama (Aprilia) +2.020s
9. Zarco (Aprilia) +2.023s
10. Salom (Aprilia) +2.350s

11. Webb (Aprilia) +2.493s

Calvin - I wouldn't worry too much about that. Tech3 & Gresini are waiting for his signature if Aspar don't put him on their bike. He will have a good Moto2 bike next year. As far as today was concerned, 0.5 is a lot to take off a 125 grid and almost a full second ahead of Espagaro is huge. I think the Derbi's have some problems this weekend which has to be engine related - whatever has worked so well for them all year doesn't seem to be working here. Maybe they will sort it overnight. Anyway - good ride today Bradley.
