Lorenzo defies own aims to claim seventh win

The MotoGP champion-elect surprises himself by winning his seventh race of the season at Brno.
Jorge Lorenzo has expressed his delighted at claiming an 'unexpected' victory in the Czech Grand Prix, saying he couldn't help himself when he had the chance to pull away at the front of the field.

The FIAT Yamaha rider entered the weekend merely targeting a podium in an effort to consolidate his substantial series lead, but after getting to the head of the pack on lap one at Brno, he would not be headed again.

Fending off a challenge from Dani Pedrosa to pull away, while Lorenzo admits he was originally planning to race for the championship, he joked he couldn't resist the opportunity to get that seventh win of the season.

“After my problems and the crash I didn't expect to win, I thought it would be much more of a struggle. Once I got to the front I expected Dani to come with me and I knew it was my moment and that I had to push as much as possible.

“I thought he would try to overtake me but I felt good, pushed hard and little by little I was able to lose him. I know I said I was riding for the championship now and that's still true but when there's the chance to win I have to take it!

“To take my seventh win in one season is fantastic, thank you to all of my team for such a good job after we had difficulties yesterday. Next we have an important test which we hope will help us in the last part of the championship and then we go to Indianapolis, a track that I love.”

Rossi is is in unenviable position of watching his young team mate run away with the championship. No fun for a rider that always was at pains to see his team mate wasn't a threat.
