Lorenzo moving up in the record books

Jorge Lorenzo is not only edging ever closer to winning his first MotoGP title this season, but he's also getting closer to being Spain's most successful premier-class rider.

The Fiat Yamaha rider has now won 12 MotoGP races, which is just three less than Spain's most successful premier-class competitor Alex Criville.

With his victory last time out at Brno, Lorenzo has already beaten one Criville record - for race wins in a single season. Criville took six victories on his way to the 1999 500cc title and Lorenzo now has seven in 2010.

Lorenzo also has 33 grand prix victories across all three classes, which is the same number as his great rival Dani Pedrosa. Only two Spanish riders have won more grand prix races: Angel Nieto with 90 wins and Jorge Martinez with 37.

With eight races still to go in the 2010 season, Lorenzo has a shot at beating Valentino Rossi's best of 11 wins in a single year and even Mick Doohan's all-time record of 12 wins.

Im surprised this topic isn't blowing up with Rossi fans saying "it doesn't count because Rossi was injured!!" But I have to say, just like with Haydens championship in 06, the first thing you have to do to win a race is finish a race and no matter how you look at it Vale didn't finish a few this year. So I hope Jorge crushes this record just for you people who think Rossi can do no wrong.

Rossi has Ago...Lorenzo has Nieto I am a Rossi fan above all...but Jorge is brilliant at the moment! Only time will tell how far he will get...many riders were good for only a few seasons, only a few were at the top end for many. It's up to him to prove what he is made of but so far it's impressive....
