Mattia Pasini ended the first day of Moto2 action around the Motorland Aragon circuit with the fastest time, albeit after a smattering of rain consigned most to the pit lane during the final 20 minutes.
Pasini swept to the top of the timesheets at just past the mid-way point, demoting early pace setter Scott Redding, but impending drizzle would prevent any further improvements during the second half of the session.
The Italian – who was only 21st in FP1 – set a time of 1min 56.368secs, though this would still prove a tenth down on Andrea Iannone's best time from the morning encounter.
Perhaps more significantly, Alex de Angelis and Redding ended their sessions in second and third, the pair shaking off the events of the last two weeks to get straight up to speed again in Spain.
Of the trio contesting second position in the standings, Thomas Luthi was fastest this time on the Interwetten machine in fourth place, ahead of Hector Faubel and Julian Simon.
Speed Up pair Gabor Talmacsi and Andrea Iannone filled positions seventh and eighth, ahead of wild-card Kev Coghlan and Dominique Aegerter.
Further back, championship leader Toni Elias was down in 20th position.
