Moto2: Elias stays on course with fight back

21 September 2010

Toni Elias remains on course to win the inaugural Moto2 world title after claiming a hard fought fourth place on home soil at Motorland Aragon.

The Spaniard was chasing a fifth consecutive win in the category, but found himself on the back foot when he crashed during qualifying to leave him 12th on the grid.

A further delay at the start of the race would drop Elias as low as 16th, but from there the Gresini rider forged his way back up the field to cross the line in fourth, maintaining his 100 per cent top ten record so far this season.

“We're really happy because even though we finished fourth it feels like a win. Obviously I would have preferred it to be an actual win here at Aragon but we lost a lot of time yesterday because of the crash and there was an incident in the first corner of the race, which I managed to avoid but it dropped me back to 16th.

“I made up positions with every lap and with two to go I caught up with Talmacsi and Simon but couldn't pass them. Anyway, as I said, fourth place is important for the championship because we didn't lose too many points to our rivals."
