Ducati test then surgery for Rossi

29 October 2010

Valentino Rossi has confirmed that he will head for surgery straight after making his Ducati MotoGP debut in the post-race Valencia test on November 9-10.

The outgoing seven time MotoGP champion damaged his shoulder in a motocross accident in April and has struggled with the injury ever since.

"My shoulder was checked in Italy and it's like before, so I will be able to finish the season. I'm so happy because I was not sure before," admitted Rossi at Estoril on Thursday.

Rossi recently got clearance from Yamaha, his employer since 2004, to make his Ducati debut in the Valencia test.

"I want to say thank you to Yamaha for allowing me to make the test with Ducati in Valencia. Now we hope for good weather!" he said.

"Straight after the test I'll return to Italy for surgery on my injured shoulder."

Rossi starts this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix fourth in the championship, but having been on the podium at the last three rounds, including his second victory of the season at Sepang.

"The last three races were not so bad for me," stated the Fiat Yamaha rider. "We made quite good results; good races and always on the podium. We have to try to finish the season with the last two races at the top.

"This [Estoril] is a difficult track, it's more like a road, but it's very interesting because there is a lot of up and down and difficult corners, from tight to fast."
