Andrea Iannone may have won three races this season, but it is the winless Julian Simon who has the advantage in the fight for second position in the final Moto2 World Championship standings.
Aspar Suter rider Simon is six points ahead of Iannone heading into Sunday's 17th and final round at Valencia. The Spaniard has finished in second place five times this season, but insists the final championship position is his main goal this weekend.
"To arrive in Valencia lying second in the Moto2 championship gives me a lot of strength," said Simon. "I am happy because we are getting to know the bike more and more but we just need to take that final step and win a race.
"My objective is to tie up the runner-up spot in the championship by any means necessary. It has been a busy season for us but we have passed every test with flying colours and that is positive as we start to plan for 2011.
"Cheste is a circuit I like and we have plenty of data because we tested there not long ago. I won there last year too and I think all the factors are in place for us to have a top race on Sunday."
Simon has failed to score points three times this season, while Fimmco Speed Up rider Iannone has missed out on four occasions.
