Marc Marquez will not only start Sunday's Valencia 125cc title decider with a 17-point advantage over Nico Terol, but will also line-up first on the grid after extending his record tally of 2010 poles to twelve in qualifying at Valencia.

Barring a brief interruption by former title contender Pol Espargaro, continual improvements by Marquez kept him fastest for most of the session, which the Ajo Derbi rider finished with a 0.108sec advantage over Terol.

Terol's Aspar Aprilia team-mate Bradley Smith, taking part in his final qualifying session in the 125cc class, qualified just 0.148sec from pole in third, with Marquez's team-mate Sandro Cortese completing the front row.

Espargaro slipped to fifth for Tuenti Derbi.

If Marquez wins the race on Sunday he will match the all-time 125cc record of eleven wins in a season, set by Valentino Rossi in 1997.
