Early end to testing for happy Lorenzo

"When you see the official Yamaha team bikes both going fast it's good because it confirms the new bike is that little bit better" - Jorge Lorenzo.
Jorge Lorenzo didn't keep his place on the top of the Valencia test timesheets during the second and final day, but the new MotoGP world champion was only 0.113sec behind Casey Stoner and set the best overall time.

Lorenzo moved quickly to the top of the timesheets on Wednesday morning and remained fastest until the last hour, when Stoner squeezed ahead.

The Spaniard had already concluded testing by then, riding for just 30 laps (compared with 63 for Stoner) before calling it a day at lunchtime.

"When you see the official Yamaha team bikes both going fast it's good because it confirms the new bike is that little bit better, but we still have a lot of work to do before 2011 gets underway," said Lorenzo.

"Basically we tried some new tyres from Bridgestone today, they had quite a different feeling, but there wasn't a big difference in general performance. We also reconfirmed the settings we tried yesterday so we've given Yamaha some good data to work with over the winter.

"I'm very happy with how the test has gone; I'm quite tired so I'm looking forward to having some rest now and coming back strong to start again."

"Today we finished the testing plan we made. There weren't so many things to try as we did a really good job yesterday," added crew chief Ramon Forcada. "We've finished early as we tested everything we needed to and Jorge felt good about all the results.

"It's been a long season and after the emotions of the last grand prix races it's time to let him go and have a rest! The new bike has the same feeling as the 2010 machine but with improvements, allowing us to be faster and perform better in a number of areas."

New factory team-mate Ben Spies put some of Tuesday's data through its paces this morning with positive results. He then also spent some time evaluating tyres before also wrapping up at lunchtime.

Everyone on these boards is raving about Stoner or Rossi or Lorenzo but Ben Spies is going to be the one to watch next year for me. He will test well before the season and then he will be there in the mix at the front every weekend. He will be the spoiler for all the Stoner/Rossi fanboys hopes next year. The guy is just an awesome riding machine.
