Early spill for Spies

Ben Spies suffered an early crash on the first day of 2011 MotoGP testing at Sepang - but still sits fifth fastest, and top Yamaha, as of 1pm.

Despite his position on the timesheets, Spies has completed just 12 laps, the least of any rider, although he has been back out since the fall.

The Texan is only 0.312sec behind fastest man Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and almost two tenths clear of team-mate and world champion Jorge Lorenzo.

No other race riders have crashed so far.

Track action is scheduled to conclude at 6pm, providing the weather remains dry.

UPDATE: As of 2:30pm, Spies is up to second fastest, only 0.026sec behind Pedrosa. Spies has now done 24 laps, which is more than Valentino Rossi, who has only recorded 18 laps and is tenth fastest.

No big deal here.Someone had to be the first faller so it happened to be Ben.Pick yourself up,dust yourself off and get back on! I hope to see some good results from Ben this year now he has full factory backing.Really like the guy, with his honest, open and humble approach to things. He will do just fine.
