Simone Corsi and Jules Cluzel set the pace as the second Moto2 test for the 2011 season got underway at Estoril, though rainy conditions kept mileage to a relative minimum.
A week after testing for the new season began at Valencia, the riders and teams moved on to the Portuguese circuit for the second outing. However, showers in the morning hampered efforts throughout the day.
Nonetheless, Corsi and Cluzel – riding for Ioda and Forward respectively – would share the quickest time of 1min 43.9secs, just ahead of Alex de Angelis a tenth further back.
Valencia pace setter Scott Redding continued his strong with a lap of 1min 44.4secs on the Marc VDS Suter, level with Moto2 debutant Kenan Sofuoglu, the Turk rejoining the ranks after skipping the Valencia test due to personal reasons.
Corsi's team-mate Mattia Pasini, Claudio Corti and Mika Kallio followed closely in sixth, seventh and eighth.
In the 125cc class, Nico Terol was quickest, ahead of Hector Faubel, though conditions dictated the level of productivity.
Testing will resume on Wednesday.
