Repsol Honda chassis options

Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso to start the season with 'standard' 2011 chassis. Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa still to decide.
Repsol Honda MotoGP riders Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso have been testing several chassis options for the 2011 factory RC212V.

However, they have not all been testing the same variations, and only two of them have decided which chassis specification they will race with.

Crash.net asked for confirmation from the Repsol Honda Team on who has been testing what and which riders have made a final chassis decision. That list can be seen below.

The list confirms that Stoner - fastest on all three-days of last week's Sepang MotoGP test - and Dovizioso have been testing two versions of the 2011 chassis: One 'standard' (stiffer) and one 'modified' version.

Deciding between them was difficult because each had its own strengths and weaknesses, and both gave a very similar lap time. Nevertheless, Stoner and Dovizioso have now both chosen to start the season with the standard 2011 chassis.

Pedrosa is yet to decide, and has a slightly different decision to make since he has continued to use last year's chassis alongside a 'new' 2011 chassis. Pedrosa has called this 'modified' but Repsol Honda said that this new chassis is the standard 2011 option.

“With the chassis we are still not clear, but I think it's better to check at another track,” said Pedrosa at the end of last week's Sepang test. “The Qatar test will not be as warm as here, because of the night time, so it will be good to get a feeling for both.”

Honda has said it will develop whichever chassis options are chosen by the riders.

The Qatar test, the third and final 2011 pre-season test, will be held from March 13-14.

Honda riders were fastest over all six days at Sepang, with Repsol riders leading five of the six days.

2011 Repsol Honda Chassis Options (as confirmed by team):
Rider - Chassis Options - Chassis Decision
Casey Stoner - 2011 Standard, & 2011 Modified - 2011 Standard
Dani Pedrosa - 2010 & 2011 Standard - No Decision Yet
Andrea Dovizioso - 2011 Standard & 2011 Modified - 2011 Standard

Well good luck to all of them.As for chassis options well they seem to be reasonable either way yet Stoner could probably lap just as good with a wheelbarrow chassis.Go the mighty HRC team.

If I understand this correctly,Casey and Dovi have settled on the standard (stiffer one).Dani is waiting till after Quatar to decide. I would say advantage right now to Casey and Dovi. All they have to do is focus on testing and race day set up. Dani is perhaps playing the hit and miss card. Fairness to Dani,he is wise to try out the last test before committing to one or the other. His physical mass/stature may well dictate a more flexible package. Most intrigueing.Casey and Dovi are both very late braker's.Dani's massive strength has always been corner speed.I would not be surprised to see Dani opt for the softer more compliant option post Quatar testing. One thing for sure.HRC are availing their riders every opportunity to grab 2011 honours.Which is a good thing. They certainly have not succumbed to the temptation of placing all their eggs in one basket.
