It has been further confirmed that preparations for the return to 1000cc machinery in MotoGP next season are set to get underway with a proposed test outing at Mugello in July.

In a previous interview with Crash.net, Yamaha Motor Racing managing director Lin Jarvis revealed that the 1000cc Yamaha would first be ridden by the factory's grand prix riders at a test after the Italian Grand Prix.

That could only mean an official test, and Gazetta dello Sport has now confirmed that the Mugello test will be open to all contracted MotoGP riders - giving them the chance to sample 1000cc machines before they are re-introduced for the 2012 season.

A second test at Brno is also likely to be scheduled in, with the newspaper speculating that the teams are more likely to be open to an additional 1000cc test, rather than continuing to develop the outgoing 800cc models for just a few more races.

The test is also likely to be opened up to potential new entries, most notably Suter, which gave its BMW-engined effort a shakedown last year.
