Alvaro Bautista is recovering in the Hamad Medical Corporation Hospital in Doha, Qatar after a successful operation to repair his broken left femur.
Suzuki's only MotoGP rider crashed during Friday's final practice session for the 2011 season opener at Losail and was taken to the hospital, after preliminary tests at the track showed that he had fractured his thigh bone.
The Spaniard, preparing to start his second season in MotoGP, spent the night in hospital, before going for surgery this morning to re-align and pin the bone.
Bautista will be returning to Madrid as soon as his condition is stable enough to allow him to travel and will be immediately visiting renowned surgeon Dr. Angel Villamor to set about the first steps of his recuperation.
There is still no official word on how long Bautista will be sidelined, but he will surely miss at least several races.
Former Suzuki MotoGP rider John Hopkins
is expected to be called up for round two at Jerez on April 1-3, but unless a last-minute replacement can be found before this evening's qualifying session there will be no GSV-R on Sunday's Qatar grid.
