23 March 2011
Alvaro Bautista could be forced to undergo surgery on his fractured femur once again as he begins on the road to recovery following his accident during the Qatar Grand Prix weekend.
The Rizla Suzuki rider suffered a high-speed accident during the third free practice session at Losail, the Spaniard breaking his left femur.
Operated on at the Hamad Medical Corporation in Doha, Bautista suffered further complications with the drainage in his left leg following the insertion of a pin to fix his femur during the surgery. As such, an incision was made in his left thigh to relieve the pressure.
Transferred to the USP San Jose de Madrid, Bautista will be examined by Dr Villamor, where it will be determined whether he can be operated on again.
A recovery schedule for Bautista is yet to be determined, with Dr Villamor set to give a press conference today (Thursday) to update on his physical condition.
With Suzuki forced to skip the opening round, it has already been confirmed that John Hopkins will stand-in for the Spaniard in Jerez. However, with following MotoGP events set to clash with Hopkins's British Superbike commitments, it remains to be seen who will stand-in on a longer-term basis.
