Nico Terol, winner of both 125cc races so far this season, took his second pole of the year with relative ease at Estoril on Saturday.
Having been quickest in all three free practice sessions, Terol calmly responded to any challenge in qualifying to finish with a 0.714sec advantage over nearest rival Sandro Cortese.
The Racing Team Germany rider was in turn 0.135sec ahead of local hero and grand prix rookie Miguel Oliveira, who completed the front row for the Andalucia Banca Civica team.
Terol's Aspar Aprilia team-mate Hector Faubel will head row tow, with Jonas Folger, second in the championship but 19 points from Terol, starting from eighth.
Following a wet start to the day, qualifying took place on a dry track with scattered damp patches, most notably on the exit of turn one.
Rookies Danny Kent and Taylor Mackenzie, fourth and fifth in the wet of Jerez, both crashed during the 40-minute session and didn't return to the track. Kent had been second fastest in the damp this morning.
