Edwards on top in morning warm-up

Colin Edwards leads a damp warm-up session for the Portuguese MotoGP at Estoril.
Colin Edwards took advantage of tricky damp track conditions at Estoril on Sunday morning, following overnight rain, to lead the warm-up session for the Portuguese MotoGP.

The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider, who will start seventh on the grid, set the best lap time of 1min 46.727sec on his ninth and last lap.

That put the Texan 0.20sec ahead of next best Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda) although Edwards' time was almost ten seconds slower than Jorge Lorenzo's dry pole time.

Factory Ducati riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden were third and fourth, once again underlining the Desmosedici's potential should the race take place in similar conditions.

This afternoon's front row of Lorenzo (Factory Yamaha), Marco Simoncelli (Gresini Honda) and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) were sixth, fifth and seventh respectively this morning.

The sun is shining and the track will dry, providing there is no further rain.
