Stoner celebrates second victory of the season

“My thoughts are with Dani at this moment, I hope he can recover soon as he is a very strong contender for this championship” - Casey Stoner.
Casey Stoner became the first double winner of the 2011 MotoGP season after a perfect weekend in France.

The Repsol Honda rider, winner of round one in Qatar, was fastest in every track session at Le Mans and, although team-mate Dani Pedrosa was able to stay with the Australian for the first ten laps, the result was never in question thereafter.

Indeed, with Pedrosa and Marco Simoncelli later tangling over second place, Stoner went on to win by a huge 14.2sec over third Repsol rider Andrea Dovizioso.

"The whole weekend has gone so well for us, arriving here from the Portugal test with the bike almost the same and we have improved small things here and there and only needed to adjust the set up for this circuit,” said Stoner.

“We went into the race confident, at the beginning of the race Dani was very fast and he was difficult to pass. When I overtook him I thought I might be able to take some advantage, but he was able to match my times and follow me for some laps.

“So I continued to push more than I prefer to and eventually I put a gap between us. From this point the race came to me and I was able to focus on my consistency and win.”

Stoner has now moved ahead of Pedrosa and into second in the standings, 12 points from Jorge Lorenzo, but admitted he feels sorry for his injured team-mate - who broke another collarbone on Sunday.

“My thoughts are with Dani at this moment, I hope he can recover soon as he is a very strong contender for this championship,” said Stoner.

"Put rossi in the same bike as stoner every season, rossi will beat moaner hands down." Funny because the way I see it Rossi has avoided every opportunity to race against Casey on the same equipment...VR blocked him from getting a ride at Yam in 2006 and only went to Ducati after he left even though he had the opportunity to go there before this year. Rossi's biggest fear is having an alien team mate on equal machinery...just look at the "its me or Jlo" incident.
