Race Direction is to look into the incident between Kenan Sofuoglu and Julian Simon during Sunday's Catalunya Moto2 race.

The accident began when double World Supersport champion Sofuoglu tagged the rear wheel of second-place Simon on lap 16.

That contact flicked the Spaniard into a heavy highside, with Sofuoglu also forced off track. The Turkish rider was then unable to avoid the tumbling Simon, striking him in the back before falling.

Sofuoglu was quick to apologise for the incident but Simon was later diagnosed with leg fractures and will undergo surgery, while Sofuoglu is also undergoing medical checks.

As a result, the 'hearing' will be held on Thursday, at Silverstone.

Given the penalties recently handed out to Marco Simoncelli at Le Mans, and then Johann Zarco in Sunday's 125cc grand prix - where no actual accident occurred - Sofuoglu could well face some form of penalty.

"Following the collision between Kenan Sofuoglu (TUR) and Julian Simon (ESP), the Race Direction has decided to organise a hearing. Both riders being currently in hospital for treatment, the hearing will be held on Thursday 9 June at 16h00," said the statement.
