Moto2: Luthi on top in German practice

Thomas Luthi fastest during Friday practice (2) for the German Moto2 Grand Prix at Sachsenring.
Thomas Luthi led a top four covered by just 0.071sec during Friday afternoon practice for the German Moto2 Grand Prix.

The Swiss rider - who took podiums in the first two rounds, but has been absent from the rostrum since - put his Suter into P1 by outpacing championship leader and home star Stefan Bradl with four minutes to go.

Bradl was then bumped all the way back to fifth as Aleix Espargaro (Pons), Yuki Takahashi (Gresini) and Scott Redding (Marc VDS) squeezed ahead of him on the timesheets.

Behind Bradl, reigning 125cc world champion and triple Marc Marquez claimed sixth place, a mere 0.170sec from Luthi.

Bradl, winner of four races this year, has a 52-point lead over triple winner Marquez heading into Sunday's Sachsenring race.

Friday practice (2):

1. Luthi (Suter) 1m 25.458s
2. A. Espargaro (Pons Kalex) +0.002s
3. Takahashi (Moriwaki) +0.010s
4. Redding (Suter) +0.071s
5. Bradl (Kalex) +0.119s

7. Smith (Tech 3) +0.174s
8. Simon (Suter) +0.189s
9. de Angelis (MotoBI) +0.209s

Moto2 has produced some of the best racing this tyear and you only have to look at MotoGP.com to see why. After FP2 you have to go all the way back to 25th place to find a 1 second gap to first place. Hope the 1000s and claiming rule can do this for MotoGP... or for that matter the one bike rule in WSBK. Awesome class!!! Com'on Bradley and Tech 3!!!!
