Lorenzo sets Friday pace at Laguna Seca

"P1 I'm happy with, but we need to try to improve corner entry for the bike because there are some tenths in that and it will give me more confidence turning in" – Jorge Lorenzo.
Third in the Friday morning session, MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo moved to the head of the timesheets during second practice for the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.

The Factory Yamaha star, narrowly outpaced by the Repsol Hondas of Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa in FP1, held the top spot for almost all of second practice, which he finished 0.141sec ahead of Pedrosa and 0.175sec from title leader Stoner.

“I am very happy to be back riding here at Laguna, a track I love," said Lorenzo, the 2010 US GP winner who is now within 15 points of Stoner. "Today went pretty well, the bike felt ok.

"P1 I'm happy with, but we need to try to improve corner entry for the bike because there are some tenths in that and it will give me more confidence turning in. It's not so bad to begin and we will try to go faster tomorrow!”

Team-mate Ben Spies was also looking good at his home circuit, gradually climbing to fourth just behind his team mate by the end of the morning.

The afternoon saw more consistent pace from the Texan, although he dropped one position, finishing the session in fifth, 0.559sec from Lorenzo.

“Today hasn't been bad, we've worked on a lot of different set ups," explained Spies.

"We haven't found a perfect one, we've found a compromise so far, but tomorrow we have a pretty good game plan on what we're going to fine tune from the bike we ended on today to get a bit of a better set up for front feel.

"I'm feeling good, I can tell the bike has it in it, you can see that from Jorge we're just not getting the maximum from it yet.”

Spies was the first of the five Americans on Friday, with next best Colin Edwards in eighth.

Nice to see the yamaha M1 gate crashing the honda party. A bike that rossi helped to develop remember ! Posted by LCtanner So Rossi is such a good bike developer that he developed a bike that suits his teammate better than himself? Also, how did Rossi develop the bike midseason when he wasn't even riding it? :?
