Ben Bostrom's first day on a MotoGP bike saw the LCR Honda wild-card knock over a second from his best lap time in the two Friday practice sessions at Laguna Seca, although he still needs to find 1.5sec to trouble the slowest of the regular riders.

The 37-year-old former World Superbike race winner had plenty of prior knowledge of the Californian circuit, but zero experience of a MotoGP bike.

With a trouble free first day under his belt, Bostrom hopes to close the four-second gap between himself and the top on Saturday.

"Well... it was a great experience and I enjoyed myself very much," began Bostrom. "The adjustment we made for this afternoon session worked better and the chassis set up felt better. I feel overall that the Bridgestone tyres are very good and the grip level is very high.

"I am struggling with the front in braking and turning into the corners so, in the last run, I took the opportunity to watch the other riders to see how they brake and how they turn into the corners of 'my' race track".

Bostrom - who lapped 2.329sec behind team-mate and LCR regular Toni Elias - is also riding in the AMA Superbike class for Michael Jordan Suzuki this weekend.

Bostrom finished ninth in AMA practice with a best lap just under a second slower than his MotoGP time.
