Stoner fastest in Laguna Seca warm-up

Casey Stoner fastest during warm-up for the US MotoGP at Laguna Seca.
Casey Stoner set the fastest lap time during this morning's cool 20-minute warm-up session for the US MotoGP at Laguna Seca.

The MotoGP Championship leader, who will start second on the grid, set the pace for much of the session, only being briefly deposed by Jorge Lorenzo in the final minutes.

Yamaha's reigning world champion Lorenzo, who qualified on pole despite a huge accident in Saturday morning practice, finished 0.248sec from the Repsol Honda rider - whose team-mate Andrea Dovizioso exactly matched Lorenzo's time on his final lap.

Lorenzo's team-mate Ben Spies replicated his starting position with fourth in front of his home fans, while Gresini Honda's Marco Simoncelli was 0.394sec from the top in fifth.

The top Ducati was that of American Nicky Hayden in sixth, albeit 0.733sec from Stoner, with team-mate Valentino Rossi 0.218sec slower in seventh, where he will start the race.

Dani Pedrosa, who will join Lorenzo and Stoner on the front row, was only eighth fastest - and almost one-second from team-mate Stoner.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rookie Cal Crutchlow and Suzuki's Alvaro Bautista completed the top ten.

Pramac Ducati's Randy de Puniet, injured in qualifying, has withdrawn from the race.

All Lorenzo need to do is harrash Stoner pace, like Rossi did in Laguna Seca 08.. He might ended up in gravel.. And then in Brno & Misano Lorenzo just need to follow Stoner and keep the gap around 1 second, Stoner might ended in gravel too.. There you go, Lorenzo 2011 world champion.. Stoner then will take 3 races sabatical? Ahh, no hard feeling.. I'm just joking, like you guys did here all year..
