Moto2: Bradl dominates first day at Brno
12 August 2011
Moto2 World Championship leader Stefan Bradl has stamped his authority on the Brno round of the 2011 season after dominating both FP1 and FP2.
The German comes to the Czech Republic keen to reassert himself over Marc Marquez, the Spaniard having won the last three races and reduced Bradl's lead to 47 points.
However, it was first blood to Bradl in both practice sessions, the Viessmann Kiefer Kalex rider laying down a marker of 2mins 03.166secs, two tenths faster than Andrea Iannone and Alex de Angelis.
Marquez himself was fourth fastest in FP2, though his lap time was slower than that achieved by Aleix Espargaro and Julian Simon during the cooler FP1 session.
Simon, still suffering with the leg injury that he suffered in Spain, ended FP2 in fifth place regardless, ahead of Scott Redding, who made good late gains, Mattia Pasini and the impressive Max Neukirchner, the MZ rider utilising his prior knowledge of the Brno circuit to crack the top ten.
After failing to better in FP1 time, Espargaro was ninth fastest in FP2, while Simone Corsi rounded out the top ten. Further back, Bradley Smith was 17th after losing time by running off the circuit.Friday practice (2):
