Simone Corsi left it late to post the quickest Moto2 lap during Friday's practice sessions at Indianapolis, although the second session drew to a close with the top 17 riders within a second of each other on the timesheets.

Corsi, who sits fifth in the standings coming into the weekend, lapped four tenths of a second quicker than Scott Redding managed in the morning session to lead the way on a 1min 46.274secs lap, which enabled him to just edge out Marc Marquez, who saw his winning streak come to an end last time out in the Czech Republic.

Both Corsi and Marquez suffered falls during the day.

Mattia Pasini had been the first man to dip below Redding's earlier time as the Moto2 times didn't drop as much as was expected and he ended the session in third place, ahead of championship leader Stefan Bradl and Redding.

The Marc VDS rider had looked like repeating his performance in FP1 when he was up at the second split on his final lap, but he then lost the time on the run to the line. Julian Simon was sixth quickest while there was a surprise in seventh with Richard Cardus another man to improve on his final lap.

Like Redding, Cardus was actually up on the times at the second split only to lose time out of the final corner. Aleix Espargaro, Mike Di Meglio and Michele Pirro completed the top ten.

A number of riders suffered falls, including Yuki Takahashi when sitting second early on, while Kenan Sofuoglu was forced to miss the session after falling in the closing stages of FP1.
