Moto2 title leader Stefan Bradl has taken his seventh pole of the season - but first since June's Assen round - after leading qualifying for the San Marino Grand Prix, at Misano.

Bradl, who hasn't beaten rookie rival Marc Marquez since the wet Silverstone round, moved ahead of the Spaniard just after the halfway mark - with Marquez crashing soon after.

The Repsol Suter rider returned and got within 0.256sec of Bradl's Kalex, which remained ahead after also improving in the closing stages. Bradl will start Sunday's race 28 points in front of Marquez.

Yuki Takahashi gave the Gresini Moriwaki team a welcome boost by taking the final place on the front row for the team's home race, with Scott Redding grabbing his second-best start of the year with fourth for Marc VDS Suter.

Local star Alex de Angelis was less than a tenth slower than Redding for MotoBI. Redding and Alex de Angelis were involved in Shoya Tomizawa's fatal accident at Misano last year.

Tech 3's Bradley Smith jumped from tenth to sixth on his final lap of the session, with Italian Andrea Iannone slipping from fifth to seventh after a late fall.
