Jorge Lorenzo kept his MotoGP chances alive with a faultless ride at Misano on Sunday.
Yamaha's reigning world champion dived past pole sitter and title leader Casey Stoner at turn one, absorbed pressure from the Repsol Honda rider for the first ten laps, then pulled away for a 7.3sec victory when Stoner began to lose strength.
It looked a near-perfect ride, but was Lorenzo your star of the day?
Dani Pedrosa admitted to being a little disappointed with second place, while Stoner salvaged third to continue his perfect run on podiums in the twelve 2011 races he has finished.
The fight for fourth was far more closely contested with Marco Simoncelli, Andrea Dovizioso and Ben Spies all covered by less than a second at the line.
Local hero Valentino Rossi looked in real trouble during practice and qualifying, but dug deep on race day to rise from eleventh on the grid to fifth, before finishing seventh for Ducati.
Alvaro Bautista matched his qualifying position of eighth for Suzuki, while fellow Spaniard Hector Barbera impressed as the top Ducati in every session but the race, when he was ninth for the Aspar team.
Rounding out the top ten was Cal Crutchlow, who got his rookie season back on track with his first top ten finish since round five (Catalunya) - the event before he broke his collarbone.
In Moto2, Spanish prodigy Marc Marquez won his sixth race of the year - and fifth in the last six rounds - after a thrilling battle with title leader Stefan Bradl and Andrea Iannone, with Scott Redding, Alex de Angelis and Bradley Smith also in the mix.
The 125cc race was the closest of the day, and saw a daring final lap battle between title rivals Nico Terol and Johann Zarco reaching a bizarre climax.
Zarco, leading out of the final turn, turned twice to look at Terol and literally tried to push him back as the Spaniard rode around him to take his seventh win.
