Capirossi: The 38-Year-Old (Aragon) Virgin

15 September 2011

At the age of 38, and just five races from MotoGP retirement, Loris Capirossi will start his very first race at the Aragon circuit in Spain this weekend.

The Italian missed the inaugural 2010 Aragon Grand Prix due to injury and will also be at less than full fitness for his first (and last) Aragon appearance this weekend.

Still carrying injuries from Assen, the Pramac Ducati rider is nonetheless determined to turn around a disappointing season and end his grand prix career on a high in the remaining races.

“At 38 years old, and a few races away from my retirement, it's funny to think of myself as a newcomer," said Capirossi. "It will be my first time at Aragon, as I missed last year's race.

"It will be interesting to get to know another track, but of course I'll be starting off with a disadvantage compared to the other riders. I'll give it my all, like always. I want to finish out my career with a smile.”

Capirossi and team-mate Randy de Puniet have both scored 29 points this season, leaving them just 16th (de Puniet) and 17th (Capirossi) in the standings.
