HAVE YOUR SAY: Who was your Aragon star?

19 September 2011

Casey Stoner put his Misano hiccup behind him and one hand on the 2011 MotoGP title by storming to his eighth win of the season at Aragon on Sunday.

Victor by over eight-seconds from Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa, Stoner led from the end of the first lap to the chequered flag.

With title rival Jorge Lorenzo emerging with third place after a difficult weekend, Stoner is now 44 points clear with four rounds and 100 points remaining.

Lorenzo was as low as fifth early in the race before passing Gresini Honda's Marco Simoncelli and then his own team-mate Ben Spies, who had outperformed Lorenzo for most of the weekend.

Other notables performances include an eleventh to sixth ride by Suzuki's Alvaro Bautista and 14th to eighth for fellow Spaniard Hector Barbera, who cam e close to beating factory Ducati rider Nicky Hayden.

Hayden's team-mate Valentino Rossi overcame his pit lane start to reach ninth place by lap 7 of 23, but the Italian looked increasingly vulnerable as the race went on and lost out to rookie cal Crutchlow in the closing stages.

Marc Marquez may have won by 2.4sec in the Moto2 race, but most of the 600cc grand prix saw a thrilling battle at the front with constant changes throughout the top ten.

Late problems for Stefan Bradl mean Marquez is now within reach of the world championship lead, an amazing comeback for a rider that failed to score in four of the first six races!

Title leader Nico Terol delivered another faultless ride in the 125cc class, putting him well on course to become the final world champion in a class that will replaced by Moto3 next year.
