125: Terol can win championship this weekend

"The possibility of wrapping it up in Australia gives us more motivation as opposed to a tendency to back off" - Nico Terol.
Casey Stoner is not the only rider that can win a 2011 world championship this weekend at Phillip Island - Nico Terol also has his first chance in the 125cc class.

The Aspar Aprilia rider has a 31-point lead over Ajo Derbi's Johann Zarco at the head of the standings heading into the Australian round, after which there are two more 2011 events.

"We have a good margin at the top of the championship and the possibility of wrapping it up in Australia, which gives us more motivation as opposed to a tendency to back off," said Terol.

The following scenarios would give Terol his first world title:

• If Terol wins the race and Zarco finishes no higher than tenth.
• If Terol is second and Zarco finishes no higher than 15th.

Mathematically, rookie Maverick Viñales (Paris Hilton Aprilia) still has a chance of becoming world champion - but as he is already 71 points behind Terol, his finishing position is irrelevant if Terol finishes either first or second.

This year marks the last chance to win a 125cc grand prix title before the class changes to Moto3.
