Gresini Honda has confirmed it will travel to the final round of the 2011 MotoGP World Championship at Valencia as a tribute to its fallen rider Marco Simoncelli, but a decision on whether it will compete is yet to be made.
Team owner Fausto Gresini had hinted that his outfit would sit out the final event in Spain, plus the post-season tests, in the wake of the accident that claimed the life of its rider Simoncelli during the Malaysian Grand Prix.
However, Gresini has since announced it will be present in Spain, where it will make up a box as normal for Simoncelli, where his No.58 Honda RC212V bike will be stationed for the weekend.
Despite this, Gresini is yet to decide whether Hiroshi Aoyama on the second MotoGP bike, plus its Moto2 competitors Yuki Takahashi and Michele Pirro, will take the start in Spain.
Simoncelli's funeral will take place in his home town of Coriano, Italy on Thursday, October 27 at 3:00pm in the church of Santa Maria di Coriano. The Italian will be buried in the cemetery of this town, near Riccione, where he was born 24 years ago.
