Misano, Marco Simoncelli's local track, has announced that it will be renamed in his honour.
The tribute to the 24-year-old
MotoGP star, who lost his life at the recent Malaysian Grand Prix, was unanimously agreed during a meeting of the board of directors on Wednesday night.
"We owe it to the memory of Sic," said circuit president Luca Colaiacov, "his family, the hundreds of thousands of fans who admired his courage and humanity, and the many sport and media personalities that gave voice to this spontaneous popular movement."
Misano hosts the San Marino round of the
MotoGP World Championship.
