World champion Casey Stoner thinks some MotoGP riders take themselves too seriously.

During a visit to the season-ending Sydney 500 V8 Supercar race in his native Australia this weekend, newly crowned double MotoGP champion Casey Stoner spoke of the level of rivalry that exists in grand prix motorcycling.

"Everyone's a little bit more relaxed towards each other [in V8s]," Stoner told AAP.

"In our class overseas with a lot of European riders there's a lot more jealousy, all kinds of stuff. All the riders hate each other and they think they need to hate each other to beat each other.

"Around here you can still be mates and race... That's something that's pretty refreshing about this paddock."

Stoner, who won his second world title during his first season at Repsol Honda, will next test the new RC213V 1000cc bike at Sepang on January 31.
