Bautista pleased with Sepang progress

'I finished the first test and my evaluation of these three days I think is positive. Even today I made another step forward especially in the rhythm' - Alvaro Bautista
Alvaro Bautista says he will make the most of the 'wealth' of knowledge he has gained of the Gresini Honda RC213V during the three-day MotoGP test at Sepang.

Bautista continued to improve his time on each day of the official test and by the conclusion of the shakedown had shaved 1.5 seconds off his pace from the opening day at the Malaysian venue.

The Spaniard finished in ninth place overall on the time-sheets, just over a second adrift of Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner.

Bautista was impressed by the electronics and engine management system on the 1000cc San Carlo Gresini Honda and is looking ahead to making more strides forward at the next MotoGP test at Sepang at the end of this month.

“I finished the first test and my evaluation of these three days I think is positive. Even today I made another step forward especially in the rhythm.

“We have worked very well and the first contact with the RC213V has been particularly good,” said Bautista.

“Now, before the next test later this month ever here at Sepang, I have a little time to reflect and think about all the wealth of knowledge acquired in these three days.

“We must put them all in the right place and be ready for the next three days of testing in Malaysia. I'm happy, satisfied and very confident for the future.

“The synergy with the guys and Honda is wonderful and this will enable us to achieve positive results.

“Lastly, I have to say that the thing that most impressed me the RC213V is definitely the electronics and its management that allows you to (effectively use) the incredible power of the 'thousand.'”

"Further illustrates Stoners ability. Last year, after jumping on the HRC bike for the first time he was fastest in the test. Here Alvaro, a very capable rider, has shown how difficult that is. "

Yes, but Casey jumped on the factory spec Honda. Alvaro is on the satellite spec bike. It's a big difference, especially since the honda engineers detune the satellite bikes so that they don't rev as high (true, plus it's easy to tell if you listen to the factory bikes followed by the satellite ones when you're actually at the race).

Not that I'm saying Alvaro would beat Casey on the same bike as I'm 99.9% sure he wouldn't. But Alvaro is damn close to Cal, Dovi and they'll be his main targets this year.
