Nicky Hayden fit for next Sepang MotoGP test?

'If the convalescence proceeds as hoped, Hayden should be able to take part in the next winter test at Sepang, February 28-March 1'.
On Monday, Ducati MotoGP star Nicky Hayden underwent arthroscopic surgery on the right shoulder that he injured in late December.

During the procedure, carried out in Fremont, California, and lasting approximately 40 minutes, Dr Arthur Ting discovered and repaired a tear in the labrum.

Tuesday's post-operation appointment confirmed that the surgery was successful, and the 2006 world champion returned home to continue his recovery.

Ducati state that: 'If the convalescence proceeds as hoped, Hayden should be able to take part in the next winter test at Sepang, February 28-March 1'.

“It's a setback, but all things considered, I'm pretty happy with how things went,” Hayden said. “It's good that it was possible to do everything by 'scope, and the pain's not too bad. The problem should be fixed now, and I look forward to being able to help out the team as soon as possible.”

Hayden, who missed last November's Valencia post-race test due to a wrist injury in the race, broke his left shoulder blade and fractured two ribs while training at an indoor flat track on December 27.

Medical checks shortly after the accident suggested surgery was not needed, but he struggled at last week's first test of 2012 (at Sepang) - prompting further medical checks and the subsequent decision to operate.

The operation means Hayden will not be able to take part in a private test at Jerez from February 20-22, proposed to make up for his lost laps at Sepang and Valencia.

Team-mate Valentino Rossi also underwent surgery on Monday, to have a metal rod removed from the leg he broke at Mugello in 2010.

Rossi will be fit to ride at Sepang II, after which only one more official test, at Jerez, will remain before the start of the 2012 MotoGP season.
