Sachsenring gets clearance for construction work to begin
FIM safety officer Claude Danis has given the go-ahead for construction work to begin at the Sachsenring, in preparation for this year's German MotoGP, to be held on July 6-8.

The construction work includes the necessary expansion of gravel traps in two corners as well as further safety modifications to some of the crash barriers.

The Free State of Saxony is supporting the project to the tune of 1.5 million euros, with the work due to be completed by the end of April 2012.

The Sachsenring's place on the 2012 MotoGP calendar had been in doubt, but the sell-out event has now been confirmed as round eight of this year's championship.

very happy to hear this news , the amount of cash needed to extend two corners to make it safer is staggering. i'm grateful there are people out there who will spend such amounts to keep our great sport alive.
