Moto2: Toni Elias insists 'clear progress' made

20 February 2012

Returning former Moto2 world champion Toni Elias finished the second of the two official 2012 pre-season tests in 14th place, after three days of testing at Jerez.

"I leave happy because we have made very clear progress,” said the new Aspar Suter rider, who won the 2010 title with Gresini Moriwaki before am ill-fated return to MotoGP last season.

“We are improving at a rapid pace and every time we get closer to the top. Today for the first time we turned in a 1min 43, taking into account that the last time we were here I could hardly get off of 1min 45, it is a good result. I'm happy because every time the bike is working better and I'm gradually getting used to it.”

Elias' best lap time was 1.4sec from the front.

“Of course we still have room for improvement, but we worked very hard in these three days, and thanks to that we have collected a wealth of information to be discussed in the break period until the next test," he said.

“I leave here very happy with the team and think we are on the right track.”

Team-mate, reigning 125cc world champion and Moto2 rookie Nico Terol set the same lap time as Elias.

The final pre-season test will be held at Jerez from March 19-21 and feature official engines.
