Moto2: Marquez delighted to return

Moto2 title runner-up Marc Marquez ends a near five-month layoff with Albacete test.
After some exploratory laps to check the condition of his vision at Alcarras on Tuesday, 2011 Moto2 World Championship runner-up Marc Marquez took part in a proper two-day private test at Albacete on Thursday and Friday (pictured).

This week marked the Spaniard's first Moto2 laps since his practice accident on an unmarked wet section of track in last October's Malaysian round, for which Marquez later required surgery to help fix double vision problems.

Greeted by sun and warm temperatures, Marquez was able to start his Albacete testing at midday on Thursday. He put in a series of short runs to check on his physical condition, which had 'improved considerably', but 'there is still room for improvement'.

Marquez rode until mid-afternoon on Friday and now intends to participate in the final official Moto2 pre-season test at Jerez from March 19-21.

"Thanks to the fitness check in Alcarrás it was possible to come here to Albacete and make this test a reality,” confirmed the Repsol Suter star. “It really has been incredible to get back on the bike again.

“These two days of testing have been useful for getting laps under my belt, getting my feel back on-board the Suter and for convincing myself that I can ride at Jerez.

“I still have a little way to go, but this is a big first step in my preseason. I thank the team for their patience all this time, to the sponsors and the fans for their support and best wishes".

Former 125cc world champion Marquez won seven races last season.

Another Repsol rider making his return at Albacete was grand prix rookie Alex Rins, sidelined from previous 2012 testing by a shoulder injury.

"The test went well and we leave Albacete feeling good about things. I hadn't been on the bike in a while —in fact since the Valencia test in December," he said.
