Spies satisfied with progress on day one at Jerez

'Today was good...we were as consistently fast as anyone out there' - Ben Spies
Ben Spies was satisfied with his performance on the weather-hit opening day of practice at Jerez.

The factory Yamaha rider was ninth fastest in the afternoon session and 10th overall on the combined timesheets, but the American was happy with the changes made throughout the session and was feeling 'comfortable' on the M1.

Spies, who also concentrated on finding an optimum tyre set-up for the mixed conditions, said: “Today was good, we started with a wet track and we had to fiddle round with some tyre pressures for a while.

"We got that sorted and made some changes to the bike to the point where I was comfortable.

“The tyres had got quite bad by that point; the times were dropping so we were slower, but still as consistently fast as everyone out there. I'm looking forward to tomorrow to see what we can do.”

Team director, Massimo Meregalli, added: “Unfortunately we didn't have the perfect weather today. The first session was useless but we worked quite well in the afternoon.

“We found a balance that Ben liked and he seems quite satisfied with the set up so we'll see for tomorrow.”

I have confidence in you Speezy, but I'd rather see you up the timesheets there buddy. I understand the mixed conditions, but it seems you had more motivation when you were with Tech 3. Hopefully the weather is more favorable and you can get up to speed again and be battling for wins this year! c'mon 'bowz lets go!
