Pedrosa pledges home victory fight
29 May 2012
Dani Pedrosa has his sights set on claiming his first 1000cc MotoGP victory in front of his home fans at Catalunya on Sunday.
Pedrosa's Repsol Honda team-mate Casey Stoner and Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo have shared the four wins equally so far this year. Pedrosa has finished on the podium in all but one round, but is now slipped to one race win - 25 points - from title leader Lorenzo.
Although he missed last year's race due to injury, Pedrosa is a proven force at Catalunya, winning in all three classes - including a MotoGP victory in 2008 and a second place on his most recent appearance in 2010.
“Catalunya is, obviously, one of my favourite races because all my family, friends and fans are there supporting me and it's a very special date on the calendar,” said Pedrosa.
“I'm really looking forward to getting there after missing the race last year. I want to feel the atmosphere again and I'm very excited and motivated to do well and fight for victory.
“Catalunya is a hard track because normally it is hot, but it would be good to have good weather for a change!" added Pedrosa.
Pedrosa has claimed 15 premier-class victories - two in the final 2006 season of the 990cc era and the rest with 800cc machines from 2007-2011.
Sunday's race will be followed by the first official in-season test of 2012, following the cancellation of the previous Estoril test.
“The test on Monday will be also very important for the team,” said Pedrosa. “Catalunya is a very good track to test the new tyres because it is one of the circuits where you stay on the edge of the tyre longer and a long time turning right, you need good feeling in the front.
“It will be important to have a good test to arrive at Silverstone with the best information possible".
A further test will be held on Wednesday at Aragon, as a replacement for the Estoril test.
