The Aragon heat took its toll on local Spanish rider Alvaro Bautista during Wednesday's test.

The San Carlo Honda Greisni rider had hoped to continue the momentum from a positive test at Catalunya on Monday, but found his plans complicated by the mid-30 degree air temperature.

Nevertheless, Bautista rode for 56 laps, the best of which placed him seventh on the timesheets 1.1sec from Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo.

"It felt like we were in Africa with the heat on track today!" said Bautista. "Our job was definitely not easy out there. Unfortunately, the conditions slowed us down a little and we weren't quite able to work as we had planned - or as we had done at the positive test in Barcelona.

"The conditions were really out of the ordinary, on a track which also has some special characteristics which made things awkward. In any case, this test was important for understanding and taking forward our ideas for the next few GPs. We weren't as fast as at Montmel?, but we are satisfied and are confident about Silverstone."

FTR-Honda team-mate Michele Pirro was the fastest of the depleted CRT line-up, setting the eleventh fastest lap time (+3.265s) out of the 14 riders. Italian Pirro also found the heat an issue.

"Today was made very difficult by the heat," he said. "But, besides this intense heat, we got on with our work and moved forward with what we had begun at Montmel?, continuing a positive trend.

"We were the fastest CRT on track, managing to be very consistent at race pace, but above all we had a clear idea of what we were doing and were on the right path. My feeling with the bike keeps improving with every lap and I can feel this positive progress.

"Fortunately, we won't have the kind of temperatures at Silverstone that we have had here at Alcaniz, because that was really tough today."
