Jorge Lorenzo will go into Saturday's second day of the British MotoGP at Silverstone seeking to gain ground on title rival Casey Stoner.
Reigning double champion Stoner was fastest during mixed weather on Friday, while 2012 title leader Lorenzo could only manage seventh place.
“It was nice to try the bike in the rain this morning as we may have these conditions for the race,” said Lorenzo, who was eighth and 3.8s from Valentino Rossi in the morning session.
“Overall the day was not bad, but not very good! We had a lot of problems with the wind in the [dry] afternoon session which made it difficult.
“I don't feel very comfortable yet, especially on the straight, we have to solve a problem with the front of the bike to be faster. We'll see tomorrow, I hope we can improve much more.”
Team manager Wilco Zeelenberg confirmed that further set-up work is required.
"We are missing something in the steering and the balance of the bike isn't right yet,” commented the Dutchman. “It's the first time here with the 1000cc so we need to work a bit on the setting.”
