The mixed weather conditions at Silverstone played a key role in Dani Pedrosa failing to challenge for pole position in Saturday's qualifying session.

The Spaniard was caught out in the closing stages of qualifying by a light rain shower that made it impossible for him to improve upon his earlier times.

Speaking after the session however it was clear that he was pleased with the progress that his Repsol Honda team had made with his bike following a difficult weekend that saw him languish down the time-sheets in practice.

"I improved my feeling today and the lap-time was a little faster." said Pedrosa. "I could be a little closer to the fastest lap-time but at the end many riders and myself couldn't improve because of the small spray.

"In the end I am happy with the improvement and for tomorrow I think that we can still do some small steps and make the front feel a little better and hopefully it will be less windy."

Pedrosa and team-mate Casey Stoner will be using the new specification Bridgestone front tyre for the first time in Sunday's race, having chosen the original spec in previous rounds. The stiffer orignal spec is no longer available.
