Spies targets Assen podium

"I'm confident that we can step up and be fighting for the podium this weekend" - Ben Spies.
After a season of race day frustrations, incidents and false dawns, Ben Spies heads to this weekend's Dutch TT aiming to revive last year's winning form.

The American stormed to his first and so far only MotoGP victory by leading every lap of the 2011 Assen race - but returns just eleventh in the championship, having scored 25% of the points collected by Yamaha team-mate and title leader Jorge Lorenzo.

As well as his MotoGP victory, Spies has taken a pole and a race win in the World Superbike class at the historic track and unsurprisingly counts it as one of his favourite tracks.

"I'm really looking forward to this race. I love riding the Assen track and have always had great results here, especially last year!" he said. "The place of your first grand prix win will always be unique."

Top of Spies' list will be a first podium of the season on Saturday.

"We've had a tough start to the year but have made good steps forward so I'm confident that we can step up and be fighting for the podium this weekend."

“Ben had a fantastic race last year there, his first grand prix win. The Assen track really suits his style of riding so we expect him to be up there,” added Yamaha team director Massimo Meregalli.

Spies won last year's race by 7.6sec over Casey Stoner. Team-mate Lorenzo rode from 14th to sixth after a first lap incident with Marco Simoncelli.

He better get it on and soon or he'll lose his ride. He's obviously much more talented than he has shown this season, but how much longer will he make us wait to prove it..... Good luck Ben show us what you really can do.

Seriously, if you guys have such a problem with him, stop posting on the boards about him! I'm a Casey fan, but I think Ben is really good. He's had a shocking start to this yer, and he HAS to turn it around, but do you people have sweet F*ckall else to do but put guys down?
