Pol Espargaro led both Friday practice sessions for the German Moto2 Grand Prix under changeable weather conditions at the Sachsenring.

Espargaro, who fell while leading in last Saturday's Assen race, led the morning session by just 0.048s from title leader Marc Marquez with Bradley Smith a fine third for Tech 3.

Pons Kalex rider Espargaro then picked a small slick-tyre window of afternoon track time to perfection, clocking what would be the best lap with 30 minutes to go - just before further rain.

Espargaro later suffered technical problems but still finished the session a healthy 1.3s ahead of Dominique Aegerter, whose Technomag-CIP team-mate Roby Rolfo also exploited the conditions for third.

Marquez, who joined Iannone and Thomas Luthi in falling this morning, was eighth fastest in the afternoon for Repsol Suter. Marquez starts this weekend with a 23-point advantage over Iannone.
