Moto2: Marquez bidding for Mugello hat-trick

11 July 2012

Marc Marquez is bidding for his third consecutive victory at Mugello in Italy this weekend.

Marquez won the 125cc race at the fast, sweeping Italian circuit in 2010 before edging out Stefan Bradl in a thrilling Moto2 finish last season.

The Repsol Suter rider won last weekend's Moto2 race at Sachsenring in Germany after starting from pole position to secure his fourth victory of the campaign and Marquez is firmly in the driving seat as he closes in on the world title.

However, the young Spaniard – who leads the series by 43 points – is taking nothing for granted at the ninth round of the MotoGP world championship this weekend.

“We are going to Italy right away, which is a completely different track to Sachsenring.

“Friday will be dedicated to finding a good set-up, because there are lots of changes of direction and fast corners,” he said.

“It could be a lot of fun, but finding a good set-up for the corners is usually quite difficult. As always, we will attempt to stay calm and gradually look for the right setting, in order to start well from Friday.

“I have fond memories of the track, because it was there that I won in 125cc for the first time and I also got the victory last year in Moto2, but each year is different,” said Marquez.

“We shall try to keep calm and work in the same way as always.”

Following Mugello, the Moto2 and Moto3 riders will embark on a five-week summer break, with the following US Grand Prix only hosting the MotoGP machines.
