Moto2: Mike di Meglio returns with MZ

12 July 2012

Frenchman Mike di Meglio, who lost his Speed Master Moto2 seat due to funding issues, will return to action at this weekend's Mugello round.

After sitting out the Sachsenring, the former 125cc world champion, yet to replicate his two-stroke form on the 600cc four-strokes, has been signed as a substitute rider for MZ.

di Meglio will replace Alex Lundh, who injured his foot at Assen and was replaced by local rider Markus Reiterberger for the Sachsenring. di Meglio took part in a recent test for MZ at Most, where he set quicker lap times than Lundh.

“I got the impression that Alex still has to fight a handicap because of his injury,” said MZ CEO Martin Wimmer. “So I decided to let Mike di Meglio do the job at Mugello. Our target for the remainder of the season will be to score top 20 results in both, the Moto2 class and the Moto3 class with Toni Finsterbusch.”

di Meglio claimed a promising seventh place from fifth on the grid at round of this season in Qatar, but scored points just once more prior to his Speed Master split.
