Former Moto3 title leader Maverick Vinales responded to his poor Sachsenring showing by leading both Friday practice sessions for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.

The FTR-Honda rider, who finished out of the points in Germany - handing the title advantage back to Sandro Cortese - was fastest by 0.131s from Danny Kent in this morning's session, when Kent's KTM team-mate Cortese was third.

This afternoon then saw Vinales and local rookie and Jerez winner Romano Fenati break the two-minute mark, with Spaniard Vinales 0.314s ahead.

Englishman Kent enjoyed another promising session with third place, while Gresini's Niccolo Antonelli made it two young Italians in the top four.

Cortese was seventh quickest, 0.648s from Vinales. The German is currently 18-points clear of Vinales at the top of the standings, after eight of 17 events.

A tail wind during the afternoon session saw the best top speed rise by 5km/h, to 233.9km/h (145.3mph) by KTM's Arthur Sissis.
