Ben Spies says it will take just a few 'fine adjustments' to bring him up to front-running pace at Mugello after completing a modest day of practice running in seventh position.

The American, who is steadily beginning to climb his way back up the MotoGP order after a torrid start to the 2012 season, spent the day searching for a set-up on the Yamaha and was satisfied with what he eventually found.

Ending the day seventh quickest, half a second behind pace setting team-mate Jorge Lorenzo, Spies insists it won't take much to move him up the order for qualifying.

"It wasn't a bad day, nice and hot," said Spies, who fell during the morning session (pictured). "The first session was ok, then the second session we tried a couple of different bike settings and wasted a bit of the time finding something that didn't work. We went back to the setting we know that works and had it going pretty well by the time the tyres were pretty used.

"I'm happy we were doing the times we were with race distance on the tyres and we know we can make the bike better for tomorrow. We need to be a bit closer to the front but the bike's working well so we just need to make some fine adjustments."
