Honda presents special motorcycles to Simoncelli family

Shuhei Nakamoto presents the Simoncelli family with Marco's RC212V.
There were emotional scenes in the Mugello MotoGP paddock on Saturday lunchtime when HRC vice president Shuhei Nakamoto presented the late Marco Simoncelli's RC212V to his father Paolo (see below for more pictures).

Nakamoto also handed the Simoncelli family a special 'Super SIC' CBR1000RR, which will be auctioned off to raise funds for the Marco Simoncelli Foundation: http://www.marcosimoncellifondazione.it/

Honda Gresini star Simoncelli lost his life in last October's Malaysian Grand Prix, as he neared the end of his second season in the premier-class. The former 250cc world champion had already re-signed to ride a factory-spec Honda for Gresini in 2012.

The Gresini team ran in black colours for the first eight races of this season as a mark of respect, but are returning to white colours - with the Simoncelli family's blessing - from this weekend.

@Bradenews - Its simple, Simoncelli had charisma and personality. He connected with fans far more than most riders. In Silverstone last year there were banners for him everywhere. The Japanese riders were amazing riders, but quiet by nature and Lenz wasn't known outside america so what do you expect? How do you miss someone you never knew about? 'Dangerous riding' to one person is a 'never give up attitude' or 'win or bin' attitude to another. Look at the Marquez criticism now. Motogp would have been so much more exciting this year if marco was there.

A class act move from Honda. I remember when I was at Laguna Seca in 1989 when Bubba Shobert and Kevin Magee came together on the cool down lap (which ended Bubba short GP career) that Honda picked up the tab for all of Bubba's medical expenses.
